~ Barque Europa ~
I really love tall masted sailing ships, so upon discovering that Duluth was participating this past July in the Great Lakes Tall Ship Challenge bringing in 9 of the 14 tall masted beauties from the race, I knew this was a must see.
Barque Europa was one of the great beauties who moored in the Duluth, Minnesota harbor for nearly a week. She was built in 1911 and fully restored in 1994, with a home port of Scheveningen, The Netherlands. Her over all length is just over an impressive 183 feet, and carries a crew of 14 professional members with a complimented crew of up to 48.
What a pleasure this was to see her sailing on Lake Superior!
